How Zuiver Wijnen Makes Sure Everyone Can Enjoy a Beautiful Bottle
Zuiver Wijnen has been importing and distributing natural wines for over nine years. Due to the exclusivity and limited availability of these wines, Zuiver primarily focuses on the Dutch natural wine enthusiast. Different philosophies and approaches come together in a carefully curated collection defined by purity and minimal intervention.
Of course, these exceptional wines need to be transported safely to reach your table. Ensuring that every bottle arrives intact is essential. Shipping is therefore a crucial part of the process—but how does it actually work?
Pure and Expressive in Taste
The name Zuiver Wijnen says it all.
“We stand firmly behind wines that are made without additives and with as little intervention as possible. In that sense, the name reflects both the production process and the taste itself. We represent wines with a distinctive character—pure, expressive, and unaltered.”
Figo has been working with natural wines since the founding of Restaurant Choux. As a passionate natural wine enthusiast, Olivier joined as a sommelier in 2018. About two years later, the idea for a webshop emerged from a collaboration between Restaurant Choux and the pure sake importer and distributor Yoigokochi.
Olivier explains:
“Since 2020, I’ve been helping Dick, Figo, and Merijn set up sales channels for private customers. Previously, they only imported wines for the hospitality industry. Now, we serve both professional and private markets.”
“We want to be there for people who are looking for something more extreme, more exciting, and more challenging. But also for those who prefer something elegant—within their taste profile—yet still naturally made.”
The company has grown significantly, and Olivier has recently become co-owner. Despite this growth, Zuiver continues to focus on the Dutch market due to the exclusivity and limited availability of the wines.
Focused on the Dutch Market
In the world of natural wines, it is common for producers to work exclusively with one distributor per country. Dutch importers supply the Netherlands, Belgian importers supply Belgium, and so on.
“We adhere strictly to this system,” says Olivier. “We focus heavily on the Dutch market because of these exclusivity agreements and the limited availability of many wines. Each country is treated as a separate market, and we often receive only a fixed allocation of bottles per year to serve our customers.”
Accessibility and Availability for Everyone
Although natural wines are often exclusive and produced in small quantities, that doesn’t mean they should be inaccessible.
“Our relationship with the hospitality sector is very important, but that doesn’t mean private customers come second. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to taste everything. That’s why we offer a broad range, including more affordable options—making natural wine accessible to everyone.”
“At the higher end of the price spectrum, we work with iconic winemakers who are internationally recognized. These wines stand on their own—their quality and reputation justify their price.”
Great Wines Deserve Great Shipping
Zuiver’s natural wines are shipped with great care and attention. Naturally, the goal is for every bottle to arrive safely. That’s why Zuiver uses specially patented shipping boxes.
“In the restaurant, we often saw other importers using Vinologix boxes. The wines were well packaged and the boxes were sturdy. We already had a good experience, so we decided to try Vinologix for Zuiver as well. Initially, we found it somewhat expensive—but it quickly proved to be more than worth it.”
“There’s very little breakage. We strictly use Vinologix boxes and inserts, and we make use of all available shipping formats. And if something does go wrong, it’s handled professionally and efficiently.”
“We’ve tried other shipping providers in the past, but those often turned into major headaches. That’s why we now work exclusively with Vinologix. People like Barbara and Mylene are very attentive and responsive. They trust us when we report breakage, without requiring excessive proof. With other companies, you often get stuck in endless back-and-forth communication for minimal compensation.”
“The fact that packages are picked up daily, free of charge and on demand, also makes Vinologix a better solution compared to alternatives like PostNL, where you pay per pickup.”
“In short: the workflow with Vinologix is smooth, pricing is transparent, and although you may pay slightly more, the level of service makes it more than worthwhile.”
“We rarely hear feedback from customers about shipping—which is usually a good sign. In retail, no news is good news.”
“If I had to rate Vinologix, I’d give it a 4.5 out of 5. It’s very close to perfect—though of course, there’s always room for improvement.”
How Does the Shipping Process Work?
“We receive webshop orders through our backend system—either for pickup or shipping. Everything is shipped from the restaurant, where we’ve set up a dedicated area with our full wine range. If everything is in stock, orders are shipped the same day. DPD collects packages from Tuesday to Friday.”
“If something isn’t in stock, we restock multiple times per week. This means most orders can be shipped quickly. We don’t ship during weekends, but overall the system works very efficiently.”
Organic Wines as a Gateway to Natural Wines
One major trend in the wine industry is the rise of organic wines. Large producers increasingly recognize the value of organic certification. This broader shift toward organic farming may also create more space for natural wines.
“I believe the next five years will bring significant growth and change. There are many opportunities.”
“Opportunities to reach more people who want wines without additives or manipulation.”
“We’re seeing growing interest in natural products—people increasingly look for food with minimal additives. I hope the same shift will happen in wine. Many people still drink wines with additives, while they care deeply about natural ingredients in other products. There’s a huge opportunity to make more people aware—and happier—with truly natural wine.”
These developments align perfectly with Zuiver’s mission:
to bring as many people as possible into contact with beautifully made wine—accessible to everyone.
